Why the activities?
The activities are what makes the NavRescue event more than just another navigation exercise. The activities are chosen to fit the following criteria:
- Can be completed in about 10 minutes
- Requires no specialist skills
- Presents something of a challenge to the team
Using these criteria the activities themselves set to promote and test some of the following skills:
- Teamwork
- Incident management
- Time management
- First Aid
- Initiative
- Problem solving
Some Examples
There is always a First Aid activity. The scenario for the 1995 activity was that of a chainsaw accident.
We also try to include a "fun" activity. In 1997 we made the teams erect a simple two-person hike tent whilst blind-folded.
In keeping with typical scenarios which might confront a team in the area they're working in we ran an activity involving a crashed hang glider near the popular hang gliding spot at Bald Hill in 1999.
