High Level of Training Maintained by Volunteers
Aug 21, 2006
Author:
Wind and rainstorms have not affected the Illawarra in sometime, but Wollongong City SES volunteers continue to maintain their high level of training.
The level of commitment to the SES is demonstrated by dedicated members who take time out of their weekends to complete practical components from a selected range of training courses. These include Chainsaw use, Flood Rescue Boat operations and Vertical Rescue. These courses allow our volunteers to support the community in times of need.
Ourur regular Monday night training sessions are far from routine. Be it General Rescue or Chainsaw training the night provides our members the opportunity to develop their skills in those fields. Included in these regular Monday night training sessions is a monthly unit exercise. This Unit exercise will test the members in the skills of Storm Damage, First Aid and Casualty Handling.
Upcoming Exercise Director Troy Smolenaars believes that the Unit is one of a high standard; hence the exercise scenarios that we develop must be to that standard. I hope that the stand-based exercise we are about to run will allow our volunteers to demonstrate their skills, but at the same time get them thinking outside the square to complete the tasks.
End
The unit exercise will be from 7pm 9pm on Monday (24th April) at the Wollongong City SES HQ in Montague Street North Wollongong
